Our deer hunting blinds are not designed to redirect your scent with vents, but to hold your scent in until it's time to shoot. It works every time!

The Ultimate Scent Proof Hunting Blind

There are some elevated deer hunting blinds on the market that have towering vents. You may have seen them. They have a PVC pipe extending 10-15 feet above the hunting blind – the design is kind of like a chimney on a house. Sometimes we get asked, “Why don’t you build your blinds like this?” The answer is we prefer the blind to be scent tight , holding in all of your scent until it is time to take a shot.

In theory, the chimney design makes sense; but in reality, we are not sold it will completely cover up scent during a hunt. Have you ever pulled into a bar-b-que joint, stepped out of the car and smelled the smoky air before you even saw smoke coming out of the chimney? Granted, that is a strong smell, but consider how much more sensitive a whitetail deer’s nose is than a human’s. Plus, in order for the “chimney” to work, there has to be a difference in air temperature – warmer air rises. It wouldn’t work when temperatures outside the blind are warmer or the same as the temperature inside the blind.

Now we aren’t saying hunting blinds do not need vents. Our Stump hunting blinds come with vents so they can “breathe” when you are not hunting. We just recommend covering the vents when you are hunting and keeping the windows of the blind closed until it’s time to take a shot.

“The scent control of a blind makes for tremendous observation opportunities as well,” said Dan Perez, host of Whitetail Properties TV. “Here’s my point: My hunting blind setup squeezes deer to walk 30-60 yards from the blind and if they are downwind of me, they got me. In any other scenario short of being in my elevated hunting blind or a Zip-Loc bag, I will be busted. But a Banks Blind is so good at holding in scent, the deer have no idea I am on the face of the earth.”

This is why we build a blind that seals tight and keeps scent in. No matter what the terrain, weather, wind direction or how bad you smell, a deer will not get scent of you until you open the window to shoot. Our window system opens easily and silently so you can stay concealed while you line up your shot. The only thing you’ll be able to hear is your heart pounding as you release your arrow.
